Dam construction

The stability of dams in the form of fractured rock, gravel, sand or soil embankments is impaired by external impacts, mainly hydrological loads, but also by root penetration or pest infestation.

This frequently requires reconstruction measures, e.g. the restoration of the external, internal or core sealing which help to prevent water ingress or other damage. Supportive curtain injections, especially in the base area, the stabilization of the supporting shell, measures against hydraulic fracturing in the soil or the post-construction restoration of the sealing apron, for example, serve this purpose.

Product requirements: good penetration; good adhesion properties; low cost; compatible with existing construction materials.

WEBAC® PURseal is a 2-comp. PU injection resin for stabilizing rock mass in tunnel construction and special civil engineering. The material cures with and without water.

Tunnel construction

To maintain safety in ever-growing excavation cross-sections and coverings in tunnel construction, special, fast-acting stabilization measures are required.

In doing so, the various tunnel boring techniques ranging from conventional blasting, excavator or milling boring, e.g. according to the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), to shield tunneling or tunnel boring machines (TBM), necessitate the implementation of appropriate safety measures: tail shield sealing, heading face stabilization, installation of support rings and injection curtains using anchor technology or anchorless reaction resin curtains.

Special tasks in geological formations such as e.g. keuper and anhydrite sensitive to humidity or exposed to humidity but also squeezing rock or karst rock mass can almost exclusively be realized with the help of reaction resins which develop high strengths very quickly.

The filling of cavities and the consolidation of soil, rock and karst but also the sealing of structures against water ingress and the static strengthening and sealing of tubbing shells and shotcrete constructions are best realized with PU and silicate resin systems especially designed for these purposes.

The tasks outlined above must be approached in different ways, e.g. as regards the German railway and urban development project Stuttgart 21.

Mining

The safety of miners is the top priority objective of all reconstruction and stabilization measures in mining. These safety measures are mandatory for the various tunnel boring techniques, no matter if conventional boring techniques in the form of blasting or milling or TMB are used.
